school morning

[fledgist]

a moment's pause and then we'll have the sun
over eastern hills the comet hangs quite low
its stubby tail not yet swallowed in glow
now it is time for one more daily run
the journey's long but it has just begun
our feet will move us and they won't move slow
with much to do and even more to know
one won't be satisfied although we're done
we listen for strange voices in the dark
but have no fear of perils on the road
nor of exhaustion though we've far to walk
we're safer here although it is no park
and hunger serves as promise and as goad
load on a burden and we won't yet balk
