i cannot tell just what i've learned
from all these years of pain and joy
life's much more than a simple toy
it must be taken and not spurned
we get far less than we have earned
the prize too often's a decoy
and all we do seems to annoy
every human being's been burned
allow me to define just how
i find myself in this clear place
before the road leads steady down
i've done more than i can say now
not all is written on my face
and i've no chance to win the crown
