too hot to act

this is where all the evils come to rest
we watch as even flies cannot take wing
there are some dangers that we will not sing

a band of fools demands that we show zest
insistent that the season is still spring
this is where all the evils come to rest

we're taught that life is just another quest
as if that takes away the nasty sting
and turns the end into a golden ring
this is where all the evils come to rest

over the hill

what we define as far over the hill
is not our sense of what is honest game
this goes beyond the simple human will

your first response was merely to distill
the golden essence out of the red flame
what we define as far over the hill

this showed both honesty and massive skill
forcing all others to bow in deep shame
this goes beyond the simple human will

acknowledging that it takes time to fill
the smallest cup and this was not the same
what we define as far over the hill

our hearts recoiled at first sight of the bill
and each looked round seeking to press the blame
this goes beyond the simple human will

you have to laugh at how things went downhill
it all fit into the normal false frame
what we define as far over the hill
this goes beyond the simple human will

not quite mimicry

so many angles and we cannot tell
just which will show the true and human face
but only that we have a kind of place
where not a fool will want to cry or yell
on knowing that the oceanic swell
has dropped us here and we have lost the race
and been forgotten in the constant chase
by those who think our world a kind of hell
to go or not to go we do not care
when answering the ones who give us pain
to say just when the passion will run out
some message seems to come on empty air
a signal that one day there'll be hard rain
but for right now all that we have is doubt
