I have never seen a simple, clear answer as to how to feed the people of the Antilles. It's been an insoluable problem from the first colonial settlements.
The contemporary features of this problem is that food is purchased from abroad to feed the tourists (who, supposedly can pay for it, and more in order to make a profit), the food grown at home is sold abroad to buy petroleum, the petroleum to grow that food and service the tourists. While the people at home have less and less to eat and less and less room to maneuver in.
